One of the Campaign Team received a text from a friend saying ‘May the fourth be with you’ this morning: evidently a nod to today’s date and also the much loved Star Wars films. However, at Southwark Diocese we can truly say that ‘the force’ is and has been with us over the Lent and Easter period, since we are delighted to announce that the Clergy Support Fund Campaign has raised £3 million in gifts and pledges as of today.
This wonderful news cannot be given without offering sincere thanks to all our donors and volunteers in deaneries and parishes around the Diocese who have generously given their gifts of both time and money. The all important £3 million milestone means that we are two-thirds of the way to the overall sum needed to care for our retired priests between 2014 – 2018, so we are now on the home run!
We currently have just over 80 priests in retirement and it is projected that 93 members of our Southwark Clergy will cease active ministry by the end of 2018. Although parish presentations have now ceased across the Diocese, donations are still very welcome, and every penny will take us one step closer to our final goal of £4.5 million.
We all need a little extra support and assistance as we get older. If you would like to give to this appeal and help care for our elderly priests, either by giving a personal gift, corporate donation (for which there are significant tax benefits) or leaving a legacy, forms and further information can be found at: https://southwarkclergysupportfundcampaign.org/giving-donating-gift-financial-information/ or please telephone the Finance Office for further details: 020 7960 2500.
Thank you so much for your continued generosity towards our sick and retired priests.
